In The Here/Now.
Message From Ascended Master Yogananda.
To be in the Here/Now is to be fully present and engaged with your senses so that you are concentrating only upon what is occurring So, why is this important to you?
Let us explore the other alternatives in order to understand the vital importance of being Here/Now.
One alternative to being Here/Now is to be focused upon the past. Many of our brothers and sisters stay in the past, either nostalgically remembering times that were pleasurable to them or regretting actions that occurred, missed opportunities or decisions. What is the outcome of living in the past? Living in the past produces a permanent state of dissatisfaction within our brothers and sisters.
If we are focusing on past pleasurable activities then we are also comparing these activities that are occurring Here/Now. This will invariably cause dissatisfaction with the Here/Now because past remembrances of pleasant activities take on a larger than life feel. Living in the past, simply put, creates unhappiness within.
Another alternative to living in the past or living in the Here/Now is to live in the future.
Brothers and sisters who live in the future are constantly worrying about different outcomes to different imaginary events that have not yet occurred. Many times this creates within a fearful state of anxiety as the mind creates ever more disastrous future scenarios.
Equally common with those living in the future is the mind creating ever more grandiose scenarios of fame, fortune and wonderful times. This constant focus upon the future, however, keeps the brother or sister from ever participating Here/Now with these dreams.
Living in the future, simply put, creates fear or disappointment of unfulfilled expectations.
In short, living in the past or the future creates unhappiness.
The only state of presence that can bring forth happiness, therefore, is being in the Here/Now, neither regretting the past or worrying about the future while at the same time avoiding the trap of comparing past events or future expectations.
Allow me to suggest a way to stay in the Here/Now that you can practice throughout the day. As you breath in feel the air as it comes in through your nostrils while at the same time focus on what you are hearing. Focusing on two senses at the same time prohibits the brain from thinking about the past or the future. Combining the focus of sense plus sight or sight and sound makes it too hard for the brain to focus upon anything else. Try this now to see how you are unable to focus upon anything else.
While doing this throughout the day, also take ample opportunity to thank the Creator for everything that passes your way as you remain in the Here/Now. This will intensify within you a feeling of gratitude that cannot be found when focusing on the past or future.
I wish you well as you practice being fully present within the Here/Now!
